How we delivered the new APT solver in 25.10

Julian Andres Klode reminds us of how the new APT solver was provided in Ubuntu 25.04, before moving to the usage of “the error tracker to improve the solver” in Ubuntu 25.10. This blog outlines how this process works, starting with details of the error tracker, how data is extracted, through to improvements in test of the operation of the newer code. We’re told of some issues identified, and that work isn’t yet completed; with ‘further opportunities to improve its reliability’ and ‘performance’.

Staying in the loop on the Ubuntu Discourse [POLL]

Aaron Prisk briefly tells us about the “Weekly Digest” feature of Discourse, which is an opt-in email users can sign up for if enabled. This poll is to gather details about how users get their Ubuntu Community News, and seeks your opinion on whether or not the Weekly Digest feature should be enabled.

Ubuntu 25.10: A Retrospective

Jon Seager reminds us of the ‘Engineering Ubuntu For The Next 20 Years’ post published back in February. With Ubuntu 25.10 now released, he reflects on what was accomplished ‘in each category’ and also “some of the more impactful changes” in the new Ubuntu. Jon covers each of the categories: Communication, Automation, Process, and Modernization. Jon finally finishes with a view of ‘what’s next’; with us given a peek of what we’ll hear about in the coming weeks and months.

We’re told why the codename is important for Ubuntu, and briefly teases of with some of what we can expect in Ubuntu 26.04 LTS when it ships next year.
